How Trump’s Presidency Impacts Us
February 6, 2018
For the past year, our country has been run by President Donald J. Trump. Previously, he was known as a wealthy businessman and star of the reality TV show, The Apprentice. He is currently on his third wife. I personally did not think that he would become our President just because of the lack of political experience.
Prior to running for president, he was a Realtor and hotel owner. He still owns his seven hotels, each known as a Trump Tower. In the past year, he has taken our country and thrown it in every which way he possibly can. So I decided to look at some of the crazier moments of his candidacy and presidency. It might give us all some knowledge on how we could improve in the future.
On his first day in office, President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (or the TPP). The TPP is a trading organization between many coutries. Withdrawing from it could negatively affect us socially and economically and limit our voice in the international community.
President Trump has has also repeatedly ranted on Twitter with anger and fury towards those who go against him. These remarks are unvetted and overall make our country look bad. No one wants to be seen as some joke just because their leader acts a certain way.
Let us also not forget his promise to “build a wall” on the U.S. and Mexican border. Many of their people may be considered illegal immigrants, but that does not mean that we have to build a physical wall to make sure that our country is free from them. This act may have been popular with his base, but it infact impacts us in many other ways. For example, what will happen to all the poor, innocent children that were brought here illegally? We have nothing against them and they have nothing against us. It should stay that way. Not to mention that most experts do not think a wall is a effective way to manage immigration.
Yet another thing that our President has done in office was taking our country out of the Paris Climate Agreement. This gives all other countries a reason to view us as environment haters. Pollution is definitely a major issue impacting our world. It should be addressed globally and action should be taken. There are only other countries that are not in the Paris Climate Agreement, and they are both wartorn. This, again removes our influence in the world.
Though I may not agree with the President’s methods, there are people that do. Any leader of our country deserves respect, even if they do make bad decisions. We must all trust that our President has our best interest at heart and is trying to lead our country to greatness. But, at the same time, we must continue to look at his actions and speeches critically and check the facts. Only an informed citizenry can make a difference.
