Patisserie Amie is a French bistro located on 237 Lake Ave here in Traverse City. This restaurant is said to have amazing French pastries and brunch items as well as notable dinner options on weekends. They serve breakfast and lunch everyday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and serve dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

When you enter Patisserie Amie, it feels like you are in a little cafe in the heart of France. There is a lot of really neat antique decor and French music plays softly in the background. The lighting also adds to the somewhat calming atmosphere. There are little lights inside of the restaurant but a fair amount of lighting is due to sun shining through the windows. The combination of artificial and natural light is perfect. Another factor that adds a lot to the ambience is the aroma of food being cooked. It all smelled so delicious and got me very excited to taste their food.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a hostess. Since this was a Sunday afternoon, they were quite busy. The hostess informed us that there could be a 30- minute wait, however, we were seated only five minutes later.

I decided on the Hot Chocolat for my drink. It was described as a Belgian hot chocolate which seemed pretty intriguing. My waiter informed me that it was one of the best hot chocolates he has ever tried. This added to my interest. I took a sip as soon as it arrived. To my delight it was better than I imagined. It was very creamy and flavorful.and topped with a dollop of thick whipped cream. I would have to agree with my waiter and say this is one of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever tried as well.
For my meal, I decided on the Nutella and banana French Waffles. About 10 or 15 minutes after ordering, my food was ready. It looked amazing. On the plate there were two crisp golden-brown waffles with Nutella spread on top, banana pieces, a huge scoop of whipped cream, and to top it off   toasted almonds. The plating of the dish was  very appealing.

The food itself was very good. Each ingredient complimented the others very well creating an amazing dish. Though it was delicious, it was also very rich and filling, which meant I couldn’t finish it. But you should consider this if you’re a fan of Nutella.

I also tried a few bites of the Peasant Omelet. This is a frittata style omelet with ham, potatoes, and raclette. I also found out from my waiter that some of the ingredients are cooked in duck fat which helps give it flavor. I found this a bit strange but after trying the food I was pleasantly surprised. It tasted like a more savory and flavorful version of a basic omelet and was very good especially after eating my very sweet waffles.
Overall I would definitely recommend eating at Patisserie Amie. They have a wide variety of food from sweet to savory, as well as delicious hot chocolate that is a must try. Their staff is also very attentive and helpful. So if you’re looking for a simple restaurant to have delicious food in a nice atmosphere I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
